Terms of Service
Last updated: March 2026
By using Galley, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the platform.
What Galley Is
Galley is an editorial review platform. It connects writers who submit work with organizations that review and publish it. Galley provides the infrastructure — the editorial relationship is between the submitter and the organization.
Accounts
You need an account to submit work, review submissions, or manage an organization. You are responsible for keeping your account secure. Galley uses magic links and passkeys for authentication — there are no passwords to protect, but you should secure access to the email address associated with your account.
You may only create one account per person. Accounts are not transferable.
You must be at least 13 years old to use Galley.
Your Content
You own what you submit. Galley does not claim any ownership or intellectual property rights over your submissions, cover letters, reviews, comments, or any other content you create on the platform.
By uploading content, you grant Galley a limited license to store, display, and transmit your content as necessary to operate the platform. This license exists solely to provide the service — for example, storing your manuscript, displaying it to assigned reviewers, and sending you status notifications. This license ends when your content is deleted from the platform.
Galley does not use your content for advertising, AI training, or any purpose other than providing the service. See our AI Policy for details.
Organizations
Organizations use Galley to manage calls for submissions and editorial review. If you create an organization, you are responsible for:
- The editorial decisions made within your organization.
- The conduct of editors and reviewers you invite.
- Communicating your own submission guidelines and rights expectations to submitters.
- Complying with applicable laws, including any payment or tax obligations related to submission fees.
Any rights agreement between an organization and a submitter (first publication rights, exclusivity, etc.) is between those parties. Galley is not a party to those agreements.
Submission Fees
Organizations on paid plans may charge submission fees through Stripe. Galley facilitates the payment but is not responsible for refund disputes between organizations and submitters. Refund policies are set by each organization.
Acceptable Use
You may not use Galley to:
- Submit content that is illegal or that infringes on the rights of others.
- Harass, threaten, or abuse other users.
- Impersonate another person or organization.
- Interfere with the platform’s operation, including circumventing rate limits or security measures.
- Submit spam or bulk unsolicited content.
- Scrape or programmatically extract data from the platform.
- Use the platform for any purpose other than editorial submission and review.
Termination
You may delete your account at any time by contacting us through the feedback page.
Galley may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms. Where possible, we will provide notice and an opportunity to address the issue before taking action. We reserve the right to act immediately in cases of abuse, fraud, or illegal activity.
If an organization’s paid subscription lapses, the organization’s data will be retained for a reasonable period to allow for renewal. After that period, we may delete the data.
Availability
Galley is provided on an “as is” basis. We work to keep the platform reliable, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We are not liable for downtime, data loss, or service interruptions.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Galley and its operator are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the platform. This includes, but is not limited to, lost submissions, editorial decisions, missed deadlines, or disputes between submitters and organizations.
Our total liability for any claim related to the service is limited to the amount you have paid to Galley in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $50 CAD, whichever is greater.
Disputes Between Users
Galley is a platform, not a party to the editorial relationship. Disputes between submitters and organizations — including disagreements over publication rights, submission fees, editorial decisions, or any other matter — are between those parties. Galley will not mediate or adjudicate disputes.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify users by email or through the platform. Continued use of Galley after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein. Any legal proceedings will be brought in the courts of Ontario.
